Itinerary Overview
3-Day Tour. Begin your journey in Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll board an outboard motorized canoe and venture up the Madre de Dios River. Reach Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion, your rainforest lodge located next to a private lake. Enjoy one of the 25 private cabanas rising on stilts above the banks of the river. After enjoying a lunch at the lodge, head on a hike through the rainforest. After nightfall, take a canoe out onto the Twilight River to discover the jungle come to life.
The next day, head on a trek through Tambopata National Reserve towards Lake Sandoval. You’ll ride a dugout canoe along an oxbow lake and search for giant river otters, blue and yellow macaws, red howler monkeys, and black caiman. In the afternoon, explore the jungle canopy at the Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center and spot toucans and three-toed sloths almost 30m above ground.
In the evening, head on a nocturnal wildlife trek to discover the hidden world of the rainforest, when animals come out to hunt at night. The following morning, stop by the Butterfly House Lounge on your way back to Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll connect to your onward destination.

4-Day Tour. The first two days are the same as the 3-day itinerary. On the third day, head on an inland excursion to hike out to clay licks, where you’ll witness a feeding frenzy of tropical birds. In the afternoon, explore the lodge’s private lake and try your hand at catch and release fishing. You’ll also have the chance to venture to the remains of the steamship used in Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo, which he dragged over a hill in the middle of the Amazon during filming. The next day, connect back to Puerto Maldonado as in the 3-day itinerary.
